All three are seamless aluminum, rolled on site to the exact length of your run so there are no joints to fail mid-span. Thickness is the real price difference: .027" is the standard residential coil, .032" is heavier and holds its shape better under ladders and ice. Specific colour codes and manufacturer warranty terms get confirmed in writing on the quote.
Size, gauge and profile — what each one actually changes
Two independent decisions. Size and profile decide how much water the trough can move; gauge decides how well it survives a Toronto winter. You can mix any combination, and the wizard prices whichever you pick.

Gutter guards: when they earn their money
Guards run $6–$12 per foot installed — on a typical GTA home that is the $1,200–$2,500 you see published. Whether that is a good spend has almost nothing to do with your house and almost everything to do with what is growing over it.
- Mature trees overhanging the roof — maples and oaks especially.
- A two or three storey where cleaning means renting a ladder or hiring someone twice a year.
- Anyone who physically should not be up a ladder, which is most of the reason people call us about guards at all.
- A roof you have already had to unclog more than once.
- A bare or newly landscaped lot. Nothing is falling in there yet.
- Cheap foam inserts and brush "bottle brush" guards, at any price. They fill with grit, hold it against the metal, and turn a twenty-minute clean into a demolition job.
- Any guard sold as a fix for overflowing that happens away from a downspout — that is a pitch problem, and a guard will not touch it.
If you do buy them, buy micro-mesh, and make sure they go on a trough that is correctly pitched. A guard on a sagging run just moves where the water jumps out.
What actually moves your price
Every one of these is a line you can see in the breakdown on the price step. There is nothing else in the number.
The single biggest driver, and the one the satellite measurement exists to get right. A typical GTA detached home is 110–140 ft; an L-shaped or wide-frontage house can be half again as much.
Second and third storey work is slower, needs more setup, and two people instead of one. It is not a surcharge — it is genuinely a different day's work.
Six-inch is more coil, bigger outlets and heavier hangers.
Thicker metal costs more and is stiffer to run through the machine.
Priced individually because their number is set by your roof, not your frontage — one every 30–40 ft of trough is the rule of thumb. Higher up costs more for the same reason the trough does.
Removing the old system and hauling it away. Ticked on by default, because hanging new trough over old is not something we do.
Only where the board behind the trough has actually rotted. This is the one line that can appear after we arrive — and the one moment it is cheap to fix, because the trough is already down and the boards are exposed.

Minimum service call is $300. If you only need one short run replaced, it is almost always worth pricing the whole house at the same time — the setup, the disposal run and the crew's day are the same either way.
When to book it
The GTA's eavestrough season runs on freeze-thaw. Water sits in a badly pitched or clogged trough, freezes overnight, expands, and levers the hangers off the fascia a little further every cycle — and we get sixty-odd of those cycles a winter. By the time you notice ice sheeting off the front of the house in January, a season's worth of damage is already done and nobody can install in it.
Late spring through early autumn is when the work is easy to schedule, sealant cures properly, and you are not competing with the entire city's leaf drop for a crew. If your trough is currently sagging, overflowing away from a downspout, or has anything green growing out of it, booking before the first hard frost is the difference between replacing eavestrough and replacing eavestrough plus fascia.

Questions homeowners actually ask
How accurate is a measurement taken from the air?
On a straightforward detached house with recent imagery, within a few percent — usually closer than a tape measure thrown over a two-storey eave. It gets less certain with heavy tree cover, a very complex roof, or a house built after the last imagery pass. That is exactly why you can drag the outline: you are the correction.
Is this a real quote or a ballpark?
It is a real price built from real measurements at our published GTA rates, and it is not a contract. Two things can still move it once we are on site: fascia rot behind the old trough, and access — a run you cannot get a ladder to takes longer. Both get priced and shown to you before any work starts, never added after.
Why is my number different from the typical $2,000–$4,800 range?
That published band describes a typical GTA detached home, which usually works out to roughly 110 to 140 linear feet. If your house measured more than that — a bigger footprint, an L-shape, more eave than average — your number will sit above the band, and it should. The per-foot rate is the honest driver.
Do you need to come to the house?
For the quote, no. Before we install, yes — we confirm fascia condition, downspout drainage and ladder access. If what we find changes the price we tell you before we start, not after.
Five-inch or six-inch?
Five-inch handles most GTA homes. Go to six if you have a large or steep roof shedding a lot of water fast, long runs between downspouts, or a history of trough overflowing in a hard rain. Six costs more per foot but it is the right call more often than people think.
Is the heavier gauge worth the extra 8%?
On a bungalow with short runs and no trees over it, honestly not really. It is worth it where the trough takes abuse: long unsupported spans, a roof that dumps ice onto the run below it, branches overhead, or anywhere a ladder gets leaned on the trough every autumn. Thicker coil holds its shape; that is the whole difference.
Do I need gutter guards?
If you have mature trees over the roof, a good micro-mesh guard is usually worth it and pays for itself in ladder trips you do not make. On a bare lot it is money you do not need to spend. Cheap foam and brush inserts are worse than no guard at all — they clog and then hold the clog in place.
How long does the job take?
Most detached GTA homes are one day, start to finish, including tear-off and disposal. Very large or complex rooflines, or fascia replacement across several runs, can push into a second day. We tell you which one you are before we book it.
What about the old eavestrough?
Tear-off and disposal are a line on your estimate, ticked on by default, and it is the option almost everybody keeps. Hanging new trough over old is not something we do.
What do you do with my address?
It is used to pull the aerial image of your roof and work out the measurement, and that is all. We keep a record of the measurement itself so the crew can pick up where you left off — your name and phone number only get attached to it if you ask us for the written quote.
